As Director General of the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) I am delighted to welcome the FIEC International Congress and Conference to Dublin in June 2008. It is a great honour for the CIF to host this prestigious event and it provides a chance to showcase the enormous and positive changes that are taking place in Ireland’s construction industry to a European audience. The past decade has witnessed a dramatic transformation of economy and society, and the construction industry has played a key role in meeting Ireland’s new housing and infrastructure needs. Ireland is undergoing an unprecedented period of infrastructure development and it is appropriate that this is viewed first hand by the leading companies in Europe’s construction industry. |

| FIEC plays a hugely important role in the exchange of best practice across Europe’s construction industry and this year’s Conference, which focuses on the themes of sustainability and energy efficiency, is a case in point. The built environment has a central role to play in leveraging greater energy efficiency across the economy and the aim of the Conference is to identify best practice, and contribute to the formulation of a European-wide industry policy perspective in this area. |

Given the importance of the FIEC Congress and Conference the various events will take place in Ireland’s finest historic civic buildings including Dublin Castle, the Mansion House and the Royal Hospital. |

Both accompanying persons and delegates will get the opportunity to participate in the wide range of social functions and tours organised as part of the weekend as well as the opportunity to experience for themselves Dublin’s bustling city life. |
